On the Eastern side of the Cape York Peninsula lies Somerset, and a series of isolated windswept beaches. You can drive along them, and between them, on what’s called The 5 Beaches Loop Track.
It was a Friday when we decide to take a trip out in that direction. We drove through Somerset, past Fly Point, and onto the Loop track. A mixture of rocky, sandy, medium-level 4wd tracks weaved themselves up over ridges, through rainforest, down onto the sand and along the shoreline. We passed through a procession of landscapes, from castaway palms, to lush tropics, and stark cliff tops with spiky pandanas with their funny helix trucks. We stopped on beach 4 for a play, no swimming of course. You could probably spend hours sifting through the flotsam and jetsam that washes up on those beaches due to wind and current. We found some rope amongst the trash and left feeling a bit like voyagers.
Loving the trip updates and progress guys. Oh man what an indelible experience this will be for you all especially your kids. x
