Its been about two years of thinking about it, one year of planning, three months of preparations and a manic few weeks of getting it all wrapped up. And now, sof sof (finally), we are off!
We literally did not know where we will go first but the general direction was north. Towards Agnes Waters and the town of 1770.
Our adventure began on the morning of June 1st and we decided to go for a coffee first and stopped at our favorite hangout The Pocket Esspresso, about 7 minutes later……..
From there we drove for a few hours and got to a place called Ironwood Ridge, near Childers, for our first night on the road…..
It was a chilly night! The temp dropped to around 4.5 degrees C and if not for the blazing fire, we would have froze. Not quite what you expect in Queensland….
Our plan is to do roughly a one quarter lap of Australia in about 3 months, or more. From home in Caloundra we are heading to Agnes, where we will visit some friends and spend a few days sinking into life in our tiny mobile pop up home.
Then we head north again to Rockhampton, turn left and go west towards the gem fields of Emerald and Saphire through to Longreach. From there we will explore the dinosaur country of Winton, Richmond and Hughenden before heading east to Townsville and up to Cairns.
In Cairns we will meet up with our friends The Friends and head up to the tip of Australia, Cape York, visiting more friends in Weipa on the way. Then west across the Savana Way to Kakadu, Katherine and Darwin.
Then heading south to Alice Springs and Ayers Rock (Uluru), and from there somehow we will work our way back home.
Of course, this is just a plan. Plans can change……. and most likely will. Stay tuned!
Looks like you guys are creating family memories that the boys will tell their children and grandchildren.!
Drive safe and look forward to the next update..
